If you’re in debt, living day to day while still trying to bring your debt down can be stressful. And it can be all the little things that add up. So if you’re trying to get out of debt, here are five little lifestyle changes you can work on to take the pressure off:
1. Stop Buying Out
While a couple quid per coffee might not seem like a large expense, over time a coffee every day can actually add up to a lot. Think about taking a flask for the commute. If coffee is available in your workplace, opt for drinking in.
2. Buy In Bulk
Though in the short term the cost might be higher, per-item the cost will be far lower. Non-perishable items, cleaning kits and even toilet roll can be picked up in bulk from sites like Amazon and Groupon for a massively reduced cost, compared to buying them on an as-needed basis.
3. Keep A Budget
The key to getting yourself debt-free faster is to make a budget and stick to it. Be realistic about what you can and can’t afford, and learn from the mistakes you make along the way.
4. Round Up
When buying anything – from petrol to groceries – always round up the amount you spend to the next pound, if not the next five. That way, you’re always left with a bit more per month than you expect – and don’t find yourself dipping into your credit cards or savings to make ends meet.
5. Go Local
Instead of choosing to shop at supermarkets, buying local can not only get you more for your money, but produce that’s of a better quality too. Farmer’s markets, butchers and local grocers not only offer good pricing, they support local business too. From eggs to pork chops, look around for the best deal.
